A possible work around would be to only use the surname box and enter U
Sun Cha or Chan Dei Chong Do not enter anything in the given name box -
leave it blank.
This should print as you want and will keep the names in the index
correctly.

What I do is enter the family and use a ? in the Title prefix box,
explaining it in Research Notes. I do it this way to keep the family
together without having to remember that I have their info somewhere else.
It also flags the fact that there is a broken or unconfirmed link.

When I find her maiden name I just change the surname from Brown to Smith

I'm in the process of doing the very same thing now. What I do is source the book and page and enter the info. I use the source for the event - for example, name, birth dtae, death date, etc. I do not create any seperate Unspecified Event.
