It is NOT pendantic at all.I choose to be historically/genealogically correct and record EXACTLY how each instance of the name appears in that person's life with the first available document from the birth being the first/preferred name. For example - this is my 3rd great grandfather

Jane, I have that all the time in one of my lines. I just make the change on the person's individual page. Then their children and spouse along with future generations will automatically be changed from that point down unless you need to change it again at some point. Ellen Kramer Resear
