Many of us are working with individuals for whom there are no censi, unless you
count the Domesday Book, which is problematic because of several generations of
aristocracy having the same name and living at the same time.

Your statement that you in order to share events with a person is to add
them to your database is not correct. For example, my grandmother was a
servant in 1901 and I have shared her 1901 census with the head of
household by name only without adding her to the database. Her name

I usually use this as I am cleaning up my file and I noticed that I forgot to
source something (like I sourced one child but forgot the other). You can fix
the sources quicker if you can paste the multiple sources at one time.

David,
You are correct. I had never tried to add someone to a shared event that
wasn't already in my database but I just tried it and it worked exactly as you
described. I am not sure how helpful this is though because if I ended up
adding this person later as a relation (and I didn't
While merging duplicate Individuals recently one, RIN 30749 had an 1854
baptism which the other did not. I merged 30749 into the other, copying
baptism and it's source resulting in 30749 being deleted.
A few days later a File Maintenance resulted in:

Please note that I fully agree with going to the original
source whenever possible.
However, if you have 6 books, all published in, say 1884 +/-
3 years, how do you determine which if any WAS the original
source?

Spot on. What is the point of allowing sharing with names only if no
index of the names is maintained anywhere?
Another question is what happens to these shares when the data is
exported via GEDCOM. I have examined a GEDCOM exported by Legacy and the
data is there under a _SHAR tag.
My guess is that it is designed this way so that you have two different options
(to include the person in your database or to be able to mention them but not
include them). Different people like to do things different ways :)

Michele is correct. This was designed this way.
In as much as this a Family File I don't need all these ancillary people in
the database since they are not related, however...
I do think it might be useful to have these names available for research
purposes since they are related at least by

When you say that the Event Notes have been replace with These are the Event

It has taken most of a week, but I have finally recaptured all the 16,000

Can Legacy (7 or 8) use my database to produce a pedigree

I really hate re-creating these for the babies in the
