I am not sure what is meant by "real image." This is a death
certificate that I scanned using my Neat scanner. I have previously
attached PDFs as Media files without a problem. I will rescan or simply
try to rename the file as a jpg -- I assume I can do this easily (not at
my home computer
I use jpeg types for any photo, certificate, and etc. This way I can use them
in any program that will accept a image. Most pdf type of files can not be
inserted within another type of file. They also can be enhanced and cropped
where pdf can not.
One may want to do a google to find out what a
I somewhat support this question about using PDFs when the real image might be
better/easier especially in this instance when I’m assuming that the PDF is
nothing other than a JPEG image or two. Yes, it is entirely possible for PDFs
to be added to Legacy but are they supported in all reports
I'm with you on this one Brian but it's a personal choice. I like the idea of
the jpeg being 'visible' as well - just easier to view.

Hi Barton,
You don't have to maximise the windows unless for some reason you want
to work in one file for some time.
You have both files open side by side.
Bob says you can use CTRL + F6 to move the highlight from one file to
the other.
And you can have further views open if you have the
This latest download seems to have wiped out the book marks I had set on the
bottom of Family view. When I went to reset them , things went wonky. Can
someone please tell me using the most current load of legacy if the book marks
can be added and changed as they are supposed to be?

Thanks, Cathy. The Ctrl + F6 did not work on my computer. I like to
view the files at full screen, but also appreciate that for some
purposes it's useful to view side by side.

I’m assuming that you’ve read the other replies about the use of JPEGS vs.
PDFs. A “real image” is loosely described as a photographic image or a digital
representation of the image. Your PDF document (notice the keyword “document”)
may contain text, images, or other digital objects. A PDF

Whoever put the personal war diary into a PDF format probably did it solely for
the cross-platform compatibility - either that or to forever keep anybody from
editing it. One of the major strengths of using a PDF is to combine multiple
documents, spreadsheets, and other stuff all into one
Brian, thanks for your very detailed and informative message. Yes, my Neat
scanner has the 2 buttons “PDF” and “Scan” on the front. I had forgotten this,
and seem to recall from a prior conversation with Neat that I am somehow able
to scan jpegs using them. However, I’m not having luck doing
FWIW: I use document in the add media segment of the media gallery and store
all kinds of large documents there, (like a war diary, or historical record or
even an family story ) the link can be the identifier of the document. A jpg

And, actually, you can have 6(?) files/views open at once. 'course you
need a big screen to make all 6 big enough to be able to be practical.
Once you have set up the split screen(s) - if you maximize one of them

I have my Dad's personal war diary attached as a PDF. It is a multiple
page document. Because it is multi-pages it would not work as an image

Of course the diary PDF doc doesn't print in the reports, but at least
it is there for my
Hi Barton,
You may find that you have a Fn lock so that the Function keys have
their alternative functions rather than the plain functions. I had to
turn that off to get the Ctrl + F6 to work.

Why are you using PDF type of files, when they need to be of a real image type?

I have attached hundreds of pdf files to Legacy. You have to add it as a
