Folks,
I'm running SuSE 7.2 with KDE 2.1, on a Celleron 600 MHz PC with 256MB RAM,
and four hard drives (21 partitions -- lots of disk space).
I've been trying to get SWAT to work so I can more easily configure my home
network. For now let us ignore the security issues of running KDE as root.
You will need to recompile the kernel, that much is guarenteed. What
you are experiencing is apparently a known problem with NE-2000 (&
clones) NICs.
First, unless you are running an SMP box, you don't need APIC in your
kernel. So, turn that off. If you actually do have an SMP box, then

Hi, Group:
Just before supper, I went to the web and did a Google search for
Linuxcare, and found a downloadable image of the ER CD, and the MD5
checksum for same.
I downloaded them during supper. Tomorrow I will burn the CD using the
new image and post the results here.

Well, that was easy. I don't know why I thought it looked so hard. (Well, I
do know. See #1 below)
Just a couple of caveats:
1. Using caldera 2.4, the startup script starts dhcpd in such a way that it
seems to ignore eth1. Starting dhcpd with just "dhcpd" gets the daemon to
listen to both eth0 and
This is what I have in my dhcpd.conf, too, more or less.
As I understand it, and I really don't, you need to have some sort of relay
program on subnet's router to send the dhcp request to a server on a different
subnet. I may just try making up a completely hacky solution by having a
second dhcpd
I have two cards in this machine. Both are ne2000 clones (PCI), one is a
winbond on eth0 and the other a realtek 8029 (chip name) on eth1. These
messages began only after I added the realtek card.
Would it make a difference that the realtek card is on a subnet that usually
has no activity on it, s

I am at a different machine, so this is a new message, not a reply

Yes, I can boot both Linux machines from a CD, and I had that option
enabled in CMOS setup when I tried the CD in each machine.
I can mount the CD and list the contents with ls -l or the Konquero
You are correct on both counts. The card cost about $5.00, too, but it was a
combo card and so I felt obliged.
What is going on?
Should I rebuild the kernel?

There should be no tricks at all. Is your box capable of booting from
other CDs? Perhaps your CD drive doesn't like the CD? Are you able to
mount the CD (iso9660 filesystem) and look at its contents?
I've used a burnt ISO of the original CD myself, so the image is
definitely a good one.

I have my CD-Writer up and running, I burned the file (as an ISO image)

Since then, I have also installed broadband internet service (DSL).

No. Never got an answer. If you could post or send me a copy of a

This shouldn't be too hard, since the dhcpd server is a double homed

other on eth1, but, I would

Here's the personal experience of a newbie, for what it's worth. I tried

Are you out of disk space? KDE will not load the default font if there is no

I am running a 1.2GHz 266MHz FSB T-Bird here and it works like a charm.
I have had no problems with the Asus A7V133 or the AOpen AK73Pro mobos.

I recently installed a second NIC on this machine. All seems to be working

Any insight appreciated.

Here's an update FWIW:
I did a fresh format, a fresh partition and a fresh drive even. In fact I
laboious emoved, replaced, or reconfigured the entire system component by
component, with my system in pieces scattered all over the floor. .

Me again...
FYI, changing (or removing) the 'vga=' line in my menu.lst file had no
effect. I resigned myself to reinstalling the original kde2.1 and starting
over again. It seems to have worked. Possibly more on that later...

I was told to download (staroffice) openoffice if I wanted to export word
files. I did so, build 648 I think and now I cannot seem to find a way to
install it. I seem to remember I had problems installing SO5.0.
There is a dir called install and a file called 'setup' but::

How can I go about renaming a print queue or setting it as the default. I
used apsfilter in slackware 8.0 to configure my printers and I'm currently
stuck having to use the command 'lpr -Pepson' everytime I want to print
anything out. How can I go about making this the default queue?
