Hi list!
I have the ltsp kernel booting from the harddrive of my clients with lilo.
Now I wonder with which root= line I can tell the kernel to mount the ltsp
system on the server. I'm not letting the dhcp send the kernel because we
have troubles with the clients, which sometimes go into a state
Hello all
I've recently installed Fedora Core 2, and LTSP 4 on a P4
system (intel motherboard) for a student computer lab. The
system is pretty much working fine except that most of the
time when you click log off it hangs and takes probably 2
to 3 minutes to log off. A Ctrl Alt backspace kills
I'm running Debian stable (Woody), and am trying to install LTSP 4.0.
Everything is working, except the DHCP server. I get the following error
in /var/log/syslog:

Aaron,
You need to tell DHCP what interface to listen on by editing
/etc/default/dhcp. You can see an example at
http://www.elbnet.com/libsys/libsys/etc/default/dhcp
BTW - you may want to use the dhcp3 package (if you're not already)
since it works with the pxe stuff.

Looks like you have 2 subnet declarations up there. This could screw
I have it almost working now. I had to append some kernel parameters to lilo
and I also forget the initrd. Now I have the client booting, doing the pivot

Well without the modification I get another error here, telling me that
subnet declarations are not allowed where you had them.

It was not so easy in ltspv4 as in v3.

Aaron,
You've got a nested subnet declaration for 10.0.0.0, inside a subnet
declaration for the same subnet.
Get rid of the inside declaration.

Aaron,
Ah, you said Debian. Are you sure you are changing the right
configuration file ?
Dhcpd, version 3, on Debian, the configuration file is in
/etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf, rather than /etc/dhcpd.conf, where everybody else
puts it.
Double check that.

Hi Liste,
I habe installed ltsp 4 on my server. The Kernel
ltsp_kernel-3.0.15-i386.tgz
The Installation is ok. (I hope so) The dhcp server runs fine.
Whe I boot the Client i get a Kernel panic.
Following the last lines from the boot screen:

Roland,
the /linuxrc file is in the initrd, which gets downloaded with the
kernel.
my guess is you don't have enough ram in the workstation.

Probably the next release, but certainly not ltsp-4.1, because it is
going out as a final tomorrow.

I had the same issue and never resolved it so I use either [IP_ADDRESS],
or [MAC_ADDRESS] in lts.conf instead of [HOSTNAME]. Works fine this way.
