Settings in Mail are a very personal thing. Many people seem to like the modern
view which I think has three panes: mailboxes on the left, list of messages in
the middle and the current message content on the right. I don't use this view,
preferring classic view without the pr
I'm getting my mail app running on the mac and so far so good. But I
find all the panes a bit confusing.
Are there any recommended settings in mail, especially for managing and
deleting messages, which allow voiceover to work more effectively with it?

interacting, then with VO left arrow, if your set up is the same as mine, you
should hear: vertical splitter, and left again to mail boxes table

Actually what i do is just set up server side filters so gmail takes care of
moving stuff in to labels/folders then I just ignore the conversations i don't
want to read. I do a mass delete at the end of each month to archive everything
in to my all mail folder. also some of these message
want that message. I just hit the
backspace key to delete it. This is great when dealing with list mail. Group by
conversation and VO will read the latest in the conversation. If you have no
interest in that conversation, just hit the backspace and a large number of
messages can be deleted.

You can use vo j but that according to the key board help cycles between linked
items so you can use it to jump between the mail box and mail table for
example. I don't use it to jump between headers as i have those turned off. I
use cmd shift h then vo left to get to the headers section

Actually there's a quicker way. If you want to get to the inbox from the mail
has no windows just hit cmd 1. You can set up favorites for other folders up
to cmd 0.

Like, how many messages roughly are in there. If it's several thousand,
that could possibly explain it. I've found that Mail does an absolutely
excellent! job for the most part, but if you have
the only way I have the issue is if the thread has a lot of messages. I run in
classic view if that makes a difference.

I really don't have this problem with Mail and I receive hundreds of messages
every day. However, I have some suggestions.
Whenever applications are behaving unreasonably, I find it useful to repair
permissions. You do this by opening the Utilities folder (Cmd-Sh
