This is a strange phenomenon.
After installing Yosemite, after launching mail, it is perpetually busy.
And I mean, it stays busy.
Absolutely no way to read or compose mail, it’s simply stuck on busy.

Okay, Ann, I just got my question answered, but would I need to use a wired
keyboard to do this? I have a bluetooth, and it doesn't seem to be invoked at

pressing the Power key. Keep the four keys held down until you've heard the
start up chime four times, then release them.

thousands of messages distributed among around 100 or so mailboxes. I have Mail
in classic view without the preview pane.
I did a clean install
I have 16GB of RAM and still frequently get Mail busy messages. The RAM upgrade
did help reduce iTunes busy and Safari busy messages, however.
If you're thinking of upgrading your RAM, which I generally think is a good
idea, I'd recommend monitoring your RAM use with Activity Monitor

Yes, mail can be backed up by doing the following:
1. Go to your home folder.
2. Go to library.
3. Go to the folder called mail.
4. Do not open the folder. Just use command c to copy it.
5. go and create a folder with a name like
backup archive of my mail
or whatever name you like,

but getting to them, and being able to restore them is a little
