I am trying to use Preview to read a multiple-column, pdf file. The problem is
that I don't want to read by column. I want to read line-by-line, from the
left to the right of the document, but I can't seem to figure out how to do
that. In other words, I would like for VO to ignore

reads PDF files on Snow Leopard and how it reads them on Tiger. In particular,
certain PDF files are read just fine by Preview in Tiger, but not so well on a
computer on which Snow Leopard is running. Any ideas

However, I am unsure of how to go about this because generally I scan files
using my Fujitsu ScanSnap, or in some rare cases, I can load a PDF into PD

and it is just a thought - but try highlighting the content of your document by
pressing command+a and copying it to clipboard and then pasting into TextEdit.

If you have an iPhone and dropbox, you can get the KNB reader app and it will
convert that image PDF into text.

I cannot open two PDf files with VO. When I try to open each file, I get a
message that says that preview has quit unexpectedly. When I turn VO off and
have a sighted person open the file there is no problems.
One file is 1.9 MB and the other is 3 mb.

Some screen readers like VoiceOver and Jaws don't some PDF files well,
especially any that have columns. Most screen readers are reading from left to
right, and if the author of the Pdf file makes columns, well then they get
mixed up quite often. It sometimes helps to OCR them,

The PDF documents you are unable to read could either be protected or just
images. If they are the latter, you'll need an OCR application to read them.

Many times Safari will open a pdf in its own window. It will be a scroll area.
If the pdf has not been OCR'd it will appear blank. At this point you can go
to the file menu and click save as and it will give you the option to save the
pef to your computer.

I simply use copy and paste. Copy from the finder, find your device in Itunes,
navigate to the device Books folder and paste there. Then select PDFs after
opening IBooks

you could use Quicklook for this. Just press CMD + y while you're sitting on or
in the e-mail.
Or you could save the pdf file on your hard drive via the menue. Then you can
read it as usual.
