Hi Folks,
Would anyone know where I can get hold of some reasonably accurate coastline

I'm not altogether satisfied with the World.Tab that ships with MI...

Hello Listers. Does anyone know of a MapBasic program to find a specific
LAT-LON point on a MapInfo map by entering the
coordinates to initiate a search?
Hi Cameron,
That is called Convex hull. I believe the more recent versions of MapInfo
has that as a built-in function, otherwise you can find it in the free
"toolbox for mapinfo" at our website.

Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone had a method/MBX of being able to take a point
file and turn it into a polygon. The points would be huddled together
for the most part in one area. What I would anticipate the process doing
is taking the outmost points and connect them to create an enclosed

You should be able to query a point using SQL. Just use the Centroid(X) or
Centroid(Y) functions in the WHERE clause.
example:
select * from points where Centroid(X) = 89 and Centroid(y) = 43

You can do it manually or use saved profiles for transformation. By the way,
you can use a raster with the registration from within the associated Mapinfo
.tab file also...
I like to use Autodesk map 3D to input Mapinfo files, clean them, add all kind
of info to it and send it back in Mapinfo.
Does anyone know where I can find the following boundaries for Louisianna
parishes in either MapInfo or Shape file format?
Ward boundaries
Drainage Districts
School Districts
Tax Districts

Hi All,
It might not be the place place for a question like this, but maybe I
will be lucky. I am moving out to live in Phuket, Thailand for a year or
so, and would love to do some voluntary GIS work to keep my skills up.

Hi Brian!
Thank you for your time and valuable insight. This is very interesting
news. I only have access to Map 5 and I have not been able to do that.
Did the import of the tab file read and stamp the coordinate system
infomation into the resulting drawing file, or did you have to do that

Hi Mats,
I just quickly imported a .tab file which was set to NAD83 17N coordinates into
AutoCAD Map, I then created a circle in AutoCAD an saved it as a separate
drawing with its coordinates set to NAD 27 17N. I attached both drawings into a
new drawing set to NAD83 17N, using AutoCAD Map com
Thanks to Mats E who replied so well that a workspace can in no way be
opened in AutoCAD, and there is indeed no tool to do such a thing. I
wondered if there might be a way of "saving window as..." something other
than a raster, but of course all the attributes would be lost by doing that,

Although a little off topic - AutoCAD Map 3D uses coordinates systems and
supports importing of .tab and .mid/mif files.

Hi Caroline!
No, MapInfo cannot export a workspace to another file format.
As often has been explained on this list, a MI workspace is no more than a
script file, containing information on the state of a Mapinfo session.
It lists which tables are open and how they are displayed and so on. By

Hi
I have a client who is exporting MapInfo .TAB files to AutoCAD and wants to
know if it is possible to export a MapInfo workspace to AutoCAD rather than
the individual MapInfo tables?
I would make a guess that it isn't possible, but as I'm not an AutoCAD user,
