My experience of using MapInfo 6.5 with an HP8550 laserjet is that the
PS option gives more consistent results. No real problems with that
printer. Recommended in fact.

You say they don't exactly overlay.
That doesn't matter as long as they do overlay to some degree. As long
as they do, you can use the INTERSECTS operator in your spatial query -
this will match all objects in the two tables that intersect each other.

Wow, what a palaver.
Can anyone on the list tell me in language that I will understand why it
is that MapInfo has so much trouble printing transparent layers? Is
this a MapInfo problem, a Windows problem or both?

I have no problem with backwards compatibility in MapInfo regarding
opening old Workspaces. But why oh why can't I tell MapInfo 6.5 to save

I know I can edit the workspace in a text editor but that is, frankly, a

I think there used to be a Mac version of MapInfo - version 3? However,

Ollie,
You don't need an MBX as there are arrow head options in the line style
chooser.
Just double click on the (editable) polyline you want to change and then
pick a line style with an arrow head on it.

Iain,
This is probably because the workspace is trying to tell MapInfo to
label something in a map window with the value contained in the field
called Id in one of the tables listed in the workspace.
However, this table has probably been changed since the workspace was
created. For instance,

Rather than using Notebook or Wordpad to edit your workpsaces, try using
TextPad instead. This is a shareware program that I find much better
than the text editors supplied by Microsoft. One of the features it has
is the ability to display the line numbers in a text file.

I experience the same problem - sometimes it works, sometimes it

Thanks to all those who suggested solutions to my Vertical Mapper error.
The problem was indeed the size of the grid cells (11m). I used resizer to
increase the cell size to 20m and then re-ran my slope analysis with no
problems. I am sure that splitting the file would have worked too but 20m
This is the same error I now get having installed Vertical Mapper.
I too need a solution. I am running MI Pro 6.5 and VM2.6 on a Dell Inspiron
Laptop under Win 98.

Having created these grids I now want to get VM to calculate slope and

Make your layout window active in MapInfo. Then go to the File menu, Save

If you click on Save then you have the option to save an image of the layout

Eric,
Harold is right - you can use the ArcLink tool. However, having installed
MapInfo 6.5 yesterday, I noticed that you can now use the Universal
Translator for E00 files.
The UT is more simple to use for a 'one off' file, but ArcLink is more
flexible and you can set up batch conversions.

Hi,
I have a map window containing several large contour layers and I am finding
that the grabber tool is intermittently not working with this map.
For example if I zoom in on a particular part of the map and then select the

Does anyone know of a way to do this? Possibly a MapBasic solution?
