MD: Sony MDS-JE530 Display??

I have used Sony 100V adapters in the US (my voltage is 120) for years with no problems. The R-90 has the ability to detect higher than appropriate DC voltage (it should give the "Hi DC in" error message). So I doubt that is the problem. You could test this by buying a 120 V transformer

DON'T buy second MD equipment in Japan. There are bargains to be found if your friend looks hard enough. Stay out of the major retailers if you're looking for true bargains and find small out of town camera shops that also stock audio equipment. That's where I always found the best prices
