hi,
get a nice soundcard. i use a turtle beach montego with optical jacks
connected to a 530 deck. when i used an analog card, it sucked, there was
all sorts of noise, it almost sounded like cassette at times, especially if
the recording levels were low to begin with. maybe a real good
Greetings All,
I'm making field recordings of machine noises for a project and I need to
burn to CD-R. I'll be going out of an MD deck so it will be digital out. I
have a regular old soundcard...nothing fancy. I actually would like to get
a really nice soundcard because I plan on mixing down

I am not aware of any stand alone device that will let you play a MD and
record it to a CD.

it be easier to get a CD-MD deck which allows me to do all the

Certainly would be easier - I'm rather assuming there are CD recordable
decks and MD decks in the one unit, but I'd guess
get the cheapest MD deck possible and hook that up to my computer
with cables (what does the cable look like that hooks to SPDIF?) or would
it be easier to get a CD-MD deck which allows me to do all the

Certainly the DAC makes a difference! If it didn't, audio companies

best-sounding portable CD ever.
However, I also pointed out that I did a comparison on my stereo: same

I don't think it is fair for anyone to say MD itself is inferior without
doing double-blind testing using the SAME DAC, SAME speakers, SAME amp,
with everything identical.
You can compare two specific models, but I don't think you can do a
direct MD/CD comparison without removing more variables

I doubt the Circuit City web guy is as thorough in his testing. IMO, he
should not have bothered with his little sidebar which to me sounds like

, the fact that a CD sounds better than an MD copy of
that CD on my stereo misses the point of MD -- MD is an amazing platform
for recording, editing, and portable playback.

I need to react to the comments made in the CD vs. MD

Probably not how you would do it, but since I have a
stand alone CDR all I do is connect the SPDIF output
of the MD player to the SPDIF input of the CDR and
start both up (CD about 1 sec earlier to avoid the
"cutoff" problems)
Much faster than ripping tracks...
