hi, get a nice soundcard. i use a turtle beach montego with optical jacks connected to a 530 deck. when i used an analog card, it sucked, there was all sorts of noise, it almost sounded like cassette at times, especially if the recording levels were low to begin with. maybe a real good

.? I don't think it is fair for anyone to say MD itself is inferior without doing double-blind testing using the SAME DAC, SAME speakers, SAME amp, with everything identical. You can compare two specific models, but I don't think you can do a direct MD/CD comparison without removing more variables

Probably not how you would do it, but since I have a stand alone CDR all I do is connect the SPDIF output of the MD player to the SPDIF input of the CDR and start both up (CD about 1 sec earlier to avoid the "cutoff" problems) Much faster than ripping tracks...
