Not sure of handling but the ride is certainly better in a 124. Not to
mention fuel efficiency, ergonomics, cold starting,and interior noise
and design.
You really should try a 124 they are VASTLY superior to the 123. And
that's not meant to denigrate the wonderful 123TD.

It could be anything but the most likely problem is the rods with that
engine. It doesnt take very many miles at all for them to bend. One
day they could be fine, the next they are not. In the 60x engines, if
oil usages is more than about 1 qt in 5k miles, something is wrong.

You just have to make sure the compressor is metric, and designed to run
upside down. a GM compressor just turned upside down to fit will not

about $100. That was last year and all is still good. Note that I had to
remove the clutch and turn the electrical connector to match old compressor.

It is the same Frigidaire R4 compressor that is used on some GM
vehicles. Check the number on your compressor. This topic has surfaced
before and the number is in the archives somewhere, I'm sure.

I bought the 4 cylinder kit a couple of years ago for $84 - but it may have
increased by now. It comes with the wiring, 4 or 5 pencil type GPs and a
relay - which you won't need as it's for earlier W114/115 cars.
Just remove the old GPs
Rusty had a sale on em last fall. Give him a call and see what he will
do. If you plan to keep the car, you are better off to buy new. They tend

the compressor bracket, I had to use spacers - some where about half
an inch thick - to compensate for the lack of the bracket's thickness.
On retrospect - it would have been easier to get a new bolt that was
half an inch short
I am assuming the pump on a w201 is the same as those on OM 603, but with
fewer delivery valves.
First of all, nobody should be "cleaning up" the o rings. The o-rings
should be replaced along with the copper seals , and possibly the delivery
valve springs.
