Periodically someone manages to blow the side of a house in with a
propane grill, too. Compressed hydrocarbon gasses are rather
dangerous, and will burn on contact with air and an ignition source --
and will explode if conditions are right. Rather messy, the military
uses propane tank airburs
A plugged trap results in very poor performance, black smoke (if any),
and a horrible whistling when the donut in the exhaust manifold blows
out. Sounds like a Stuka on a vertical dive. No turbo effect, since
there is no exhaust flow to speak of.

I am willing to bet that your sensor wires are cruddy,
since they tend to get nasty near the bottom of the
tank first. Once you get everything cleaned and
reassembled, I'm sure it will work as new.
Just be careful and don't get ham-handed around the
sensor wires - they can break.

I did one for the diesels, but I don't see it on
Richarde's site. This one is more than adequate.

If this were Diesel, I'd say there is crud on the wire inside the fuel gage
sender. Probably same for gas. Recommend replacing the fuel sensor tube.
About $100 and a couple hours labor. You may need to remove the rear seat
back (as in my 82 300SD-126) or the gage may be accessible through the fi

On another topic, my 280SE 3.5 fuel gauge is intermittently jittery below
1/4 tank. The needle bounces all over the place, settles down, then does it
again. I am wondering whether this is symptomatic of a fault in the in-dash
fuel gauge or in the tank sending unit. Anybody with thoughts on this

cleaner and then removed the vacuum shutoff device. It had been
