Does that mean I can't just get a big mallet and beat on them until they

And, may I add, my 300D getting no better than 22mpg is annoying.

That's why I'm driving the Acura back and forth to the old nuke plant. Acura
gets 24-25mpg and my 300D will get no better that 22mpg...ever. Unleaded is
$3.35 or so and diesel is $4.12 or so.

Piffle! My 240D is one of the best "in traffic" cars I've driven.
The trick is not to be so worried about "keeping up with the Joneses" or the
car in front of you.
Put it in 1st, let it idle, you'll catch them when they're stopped.
The 190D is a decent heavy traffic car but not quite as good, it
I didn't say I was opposed to manual shift, both of my cars have manual trans.
Have you got a 5spd in yours? Was the trans hard to find? I was of the
understanding they were quite rare here.
I've been in a 300TD with a manual trans as well. It was a 4spd NA... A
conversion but well done.

Here's something to take a look at whenever you feel like M-B repair
is too tricky and you're spending too much money on one-use-only tools
(4.5mm Allen for the 124 center dash vent?). Notice the number of
times the writer refers to a "$1,000 Rolls Royce special tool."

If the rings are bad, you will have tremendous blowby. If you don't,
likely the valves are bad, much cheaper.

Well, diesel is now 4.17 here. Geez, I need to get my 190D going quick.
Why the hell did I get rid of my 92 300D with its 33mpg? Its too
expensive driving a SDL back and forth to work.

My buddy the Benz mechanic just uses standard ChannelLock type
pliers, but he's got a lift. Not possible on the ground, you can't
get both hands up in there.
As I said, he always takes the lever on the transmission off, way to
hard to reach.
