Changed the front brake pads on my W126 over the weekend. Noticed that the
metal backing plate BARELY fit into opening on the calliper, even after
cleaning out all the accumulated brake dust, detritus, etc, and the pads

I'll rephrase:
LEDs to my knowledge aren't supposed to be dimmed and doing so (ie running them
at other than their rated input) will reduce their lifespan.

Well compare to my '88 GMC S15, my parent's '95 Jeep Cherokee, '99 Chevy
Tracker and '01 Jeep Liberty where anything 35mph and up was 4th and 5th came
in around 55mph then theres a slight but important difference which had those
in 4th at normal around town speeds where my 190D is in 3rd...
You dim them by chopping current flow so they are only flashing on some
fraction of the time. You need a simple little timer circuit to do that.

LED's dim just fine on reduced current. You can PWM them,
or you can use a dropping resistor. It's just less linear
than with incandescents.

My local hardware store has it, look on the rack with the other sealants and
RTV. Comes in a tube just like RTV that you add a screw on snout to.

Actually fluorescents can be dimmed. Just takes a special controller. A
lot of the classrooms at UF in Gainesville have dimmers on the
fluorescent lights in them.
As for the LEDs, a lot of the stuff I have read says that dimming LEDs
makes them last longer since they don't get as hot.
Where does the heater fan fuse live in a later 124? The fan quit
abruptly this morning on the way to work (34F) in the '92 300D 2.5 - I
don't see anything that looks like the one in the 126 ---
