I have had nothing but bad from goodyear tires. The one exception was the ones that came with the quantum. those never slipped belts and held the road reasonably well. Several of the problems were rubber that is either made too hard or ages to become too hard and does not grip the road.

I'm finally getting around to replacing the glow plugs in my 97 e300. 1-5 came out easy with no issues, and look like recent ngk plugs, no carbon build up at all. I don't know anything about these so assume they fail early. I get to #6 and it is stuck good. I'm working it back and forth now. I

Check the vacuum pump, if it sheds chunks it usually breaks the chain, but if the cam gear was bad, a suddenly locked chain could fracture it. Knocking before failure sounds more like a cracked camshaft sprocket though. I don't think this is a common failure Peter

Well there was something going on leading up to the failed that the PO nor the show was able to observe and figure out, instead they replaced a couple of injectors. The owner continued driving it until it quit completely. I have a complete #20 head with camshaft etc ready to go if needed. Need

Obviously further tear down is required to establish the failure path.. "Something" caused the cam to stop while the engine was under power.. certainly.. I can not conceive the cam gear simply "failed on it's own" from fatigue. More pictures as it comes apart please.. you have my interest here..
