It being low on coolant was your first sign of trouble. If you do not see it leaking anywhere it must be burning it. These cars should not smoke at all really. Full it up and leave the cap off and see if it blows coolant out. Could be plugged up radiator or bad fan clutch also but I would focus

The color is DB 470 - Colorado beige, if anyone's interested. I once looked at a 280CE in this shade. I kind of liked it.
