The insurer is going to claim the car is worth something like $3k and offer that as a payoff and total it. I highly doubt they would even consider paying out the cost to repair based on the age, mileage and condition. Now is the time Kaleb should be gathering data to support a higher valuation.

I've never had an oil related failure on a large engine (once on a lawnmower maybe) so I don't worry about it too much. The farm tractors get changed once every 2 years but we're talking less than 100 hours of run time, synthetic 5w40 in the '98 Ford and 15w40 diesel oil in the 1952 Farmall.
