Agreed, but your observations are correct. Cars I have changed to synthetic, specifically Mobil 1, seem to run smoother and quieter after 2-3 oil changes. The former S500 coupe was a good example of this. It had a mild lifter tick at idle that was not due to leaking oiler tubes, as it often is
