Regular use helps. Tires that just sit seem to rot.
Partly why I like loaning out the car trailer to the
neighbors.

Not sure how often you would need to reapply.

The special sealant is only available in northern climates and it is only
available during the winter months. It's called "snow" and works best when
applied with deep cloud cover that limits sunlight to 3 hrs per day.
"Snow" protectant is supplemented by use of "salt induced deep corrosion
303 offers a “tire protectant and balm” product that blocks UV, but if it was
exposed to the elements I suspect you would have to reapply regularly.

When I was at the vast northern estate last week I noticed a bunch of pickup
trucks parked with covers over the tires. I expect these are plow trucks that
are rarely used in the summer time and the covers protect the tires from the
UVs.

As an Arizona resident, I have a 5 year hard line on life of tires. The UV

had 4 tires simply explode from sidewall failure while parked. All were

I would agree with Greg. Since Dad was in IL most of the time, I suspect the
sidewalls are in good shape. I would inspect them closely for cracking, and if
they look good, don’t worry about it at this point.

I would say that climate conditions are a critical factor. Heat and UV are
the primary enemies. I would think a truck stored outdoors in AZ would age
tires much faster than here in the PNW.
I would certainly inspect closely for signs of heat/sunlight damage.

I guess Michelin says you can go up to 10 years, depending on many factors.

A lot, if not most, North American cars of that vintage were pretty much
junk. The cars from the 1960's were better. We had a 1977 Monarch. It

My brother had a Granada. Even with my limited car experience at the time, I

At age 15, riding along when my Dad test-drove the Granada that
ended up replacing our Park Lane, I thought the damned thing was
broken, it was so noisy in comparison.
Worst. Trade. Ever. Smaller, worse-built, noisier, slower, with a

When we replaced the W124's with a new Passat, the first things I noticed
was hearing the wind noise and that the seats were not as comfortable as
the over 20 yrs old MB seats. Nothing has measured up since.
The current Subaru Legacy seats are about the same as the VW seats were.
