Disconnect the battery ground strap... they don't have an independent power source do they? In 1986 our SL's have a switching boost power supply and a capacitor bank to ensure that there is deployment current during a wreck that might sever the main battery feed. This stuff is, I believe,

According to the service manual, disconnecting the brains of the system in the passenger side footwell allows a shorting resistor to come into play to prevent an unintended discharge of the bag. At least that was how I understood it. Dan Sent from my iPhone On Jan 17, 2012, at 11:31 AM, Jim

The airbag controller has an 'umongous capacitor in it to fire the bag in an accident if all power is lost. Watch you head position when removing airbag. It is a squib very unlikely to fire with out power or lotsa static. Be careful. Fred Moir Lynn MA Diesel preferred On 1/17/2012 10:02 AM,

[MBZ] Monowiper Question

On the 92 300E I recently acquired, I had an issue with the wiper that I wanted to run by the collective list wisdom: While changing lanes I inadvertently turned the wiper switch on the turn signal stalk. The wiper came on, but when I turned the switch back to Off it would not park or shut

I suspect an issue with the stalk switch, or possibly the contacts in the wiper motor that tell the motor when the arm is in the parked position. I haven't had a chance to consult the service manual, but will be later today. Gettin' a bit new for me, but on an '86 SL I found that somebody

I would try Jim Cathey's suggestion, I've fixed two different stalks by cleaning with a good contact cleaner. One issue on a 123 car was identical to yours, a problem on my 124 car was lack of high beam flash. On the 123 stalk I had to take it completely apart as the contacts I cleaned were

I pulled the 123 stalk, but it could have been done in situ. End cap can be pried off. 124 was in situ, simply exposed the contact switch at the base and sprayed it off. I don't know if a 124 stalk has an end cap you can pry off; little parts inside, be careful not to lose any... -- Max
