our feeder here in Isabella. This is unusual because they're almost unknown in

On Sunday I had a pair of Red-headed Woodpeckers copulating at Parkers

Common redpolls finally came into feeders here in the NE several weeks ago,
and at our feeders in Isabella have been inhaling peanuts. I first noticed
this in Tower two years ago. Oddly, when I inquired about this on Ely Field

I just got home from a two hour trip around Minnetonka and saw a few Loons,
Bald Eagles, Kingfishers, Mallards, and 100's of Common Mergansers.
We pretty thoroughly covered the accessible shoreline, missing the
eastern-most side at Greenwood and Deephaven.

In a previous post, I asked for reports of redpolls eating suet that didn't
have seeds in it. Several replies came in where observers had suet with
seeds in it, but they could tell the redpolls were eating the suet, not just

During the pandemic, the MOU encourages you to stay safe, practice social

Today two Eurasian tree sparrows joined the swarms of redpolls, grackles,
blackbirds, smattering of juncos and lone fox sparrow at our Tower feeder.
These are the first I've seen in 50 years of bird feeding in NE MN.

(and see) a dead crow or owl, especially with all the attention an
owl nest gets this time of year.
If we birders do our part, take down our feeders and bird baths, maybe by
July this will be over and we'll be seeing the fledglings.

that because of its proximity to a Wood Duck box, does
occasionally have the ducks perch on it. That feeder is empty and will not
at this time be refilled.

for a walk at Whitetail Woods (Dakota) County Park in part to scout
for the crane count next weekend. I did find a pair of cranes as well as
pairs of all the mentioned waterfowl, as well as N. Shovelers. The park was
flush with singing robins, redwings, and song sparrows.

Reminds me of the Ruffed Grouse that flew through my yard in Minneapolis
one block from the Lake Street bridge. And, yes, though I might be getting
to be an old timer, the Lake Street Bridge was already built.

Bob Tamannen just called with a precise location for yesterday's spruce grouse
sighting: 0.9 miles east on Hwy 1 from the Spruce Road.

Yesterday Bob Tamannen of Soudan encountered a flock of spruce grouse on Hwy 1
about 2 miles east of the Spruce Road - he did not note the precise location.

During Project Feederwatch counts in our yard in Eagan, we saw our first
Common Redpoll on January 8, then 3 on January 15. Today, we have 8.
