In CICS only a single connection to the queue manager is made, but it's
CICS that's the transaction coordinator. So, any commits/rollbacks are
done on a task basis. I would assume IMS behaves in a similar way.

I think if you set the CCSID in the AIX message that you don't want
converted to the CCSID on OS/390, this should work. MQ should see that the
CCSID in the AIX message matches the CCSID for MQ on OS/390 and bypass any
conversion.

physical network. I would have thought that TCP/IP would reassemble the
packets in their proper order regardless how they traversed the network.
Suppose there are 2 XA stanzas with DB+ coded for both of them and assume
the program uses the AT databasename clause. Is ORACLE_SID still required?

A couple things you may want to consider:
1. In the past (it may be different now), if you have remote queue managers
that do not support ADOPTMCA, e.g. VMS, using DISCINT(0) when a connection
is broken will result in a *phantom* socket connection. VMS will still
