Adam,
First, please try not to post in HTML if you can avoid it, as many people (especially those using text based e-mail clients), will see a lot of extra stuff.
Now to the question:
I've never really tried heavy gaming on a Mandrake system, but decided to reply anyways--have you checked to
I finally had the time to play with this - it seems that lilo does not
automatically get configured for the correct root partition.
Using the Promise Ultra 100 controller, I checked what the install had
automatically set the / partition to be for lilo. It was set to hde1 even

Hi,
I just buy a new IBM 20GB hard drive, while installing

Check the pines back of your hard disk, you have that change it, for works correctly
Pentium 133mhz processor
80mb RAM
about a 10mb hard drive (IDE)
about a 8mb hard drive (IDE)
10 and 8 mb hard drives? You'd be hard pressed to install Mandrake 7.2 on
18mb worth of drive space.

Hello to everyone!
Total newbie hereI need some advice.
I have an old Celeron 400 system I just rehabilitated and I want it to run Linux.
Problem is I only have cds for 7.1 [kernel 2.2.14].
Installation went well except that it's having issues with the only modem
Try installing kdebase-nsplugins-2.1.1-13mdk.i586.rpm from the
Mandrake 8 CD (I'm assuming you have LM8 here). Otherwise, get a
package of the same name from http://ww.rpmfind.net for LM7.2. In the
KDE control centre, there should now be a section in the Konqueror
settings for Netscape
Ted; Firstly, you can install either 7.2 OR 8.0 , and instead of installing
as a server, you can install as a workstation and use the server
packages/services anyway. The 2 things to watch for is that your machine
will not be as secure, because the xserver will leave ports open to the
BTW be sure that netscape-plugins is also installed - I didn't know
that it isn't installed by default in LM8 (at least in my machine), and
was scratching my head for a while, wondering where I'd gone wrong. :P
You might also want to install plugger while you're at it.

well, your first step should be checking to find out if it is a winmodem,
,go and look at 3coms site,,,
if it is, head over to linmodems.org and see if it is one that can be
setup..
The server setup is something you will have to read up on,, use man apache.
mandrake can install it for you
iIf you check out the webmin, there's something in there for MajorDomo.
So yes, you will be able to manage and config THE MAJOR from webmin.
You just have to install it first.
The RPM may be on the downloaded disks. Just make sure you have all the
requirements when installing to avoid errors.

I just wanted to ask for advice on how I can

Gotta make sure it's not a winmodem. So 1st make sure your bios is not set
to plugplay 2nd...if your modem has jumpers that take it out of
plugplay..do those too. I have no idea if this 3com does or not. Perhaps a
more knowledgable soul can chime in here. Then configure your modem

franki When it runs, it errors on alot of directorys because some of
franki the old web sites have spaces in their directory or file names..
Franki,
Try using the printf action of the find command to quote the file names:
find . -type d -printf '%p'\n | xargs chmod 755
find .
cool, I'll do that...thanks.
One last thing I wanted to ask
in my logs, I am getting reports that files are world writable, even though
they are owned by apache and chmod 644 or 755...
has anyone else got that from the logging in mdk7.2???

Everything works fine, except my soundcard is not being detected and when I
