Hi All,
I set my up my LM8.0 for three users. Root, Me and my Son!
I've had no problems until tonight. My son tells me that
his konqueror keeps crashing. I went to his login session
and tried to launch konq from the terminal. It tells me the
following:
KCrash: Application Name = konqueror
Mr E,
I had the same problem when I edited the console.perm file.
The first thing I did was, (and this is experience from old
DOS files) was to comment out the line:
# dri.=/dev/dri/* /dev/nvidia*
When I rebooted, I too could not get X started...I kept
getting thrown back to console mode,
Hi All,
I've been playing around with my screensavers and I find
that CONFIGURATION - KDE - LOOKNFEEL - SCREENSAVERS in
LM8.0 brings up a list of screensavers.
But this list is only a partial list of the available
screensavers I find in my directories manually.
Is there any way to have the
Hi All,
This is going to be a very elementary question...but it's my first time!
I'm going to try to install the NVidia Drivers from their website onto my
system. I find so much conflicting information in all the installatin guides
and readme files that I'm totally confused.
I have an idea
disks can be installed this way.
and 2. Simplicity!
Thanks again,

Ok, I appreciate all your help.
I understand why I shouldn't use Software Manager for this particular
installation. One other thingafter I install these drivers from console
mode, should I edit my XF86Config-4 file as well, BEFORE rebooting?
and what should I do in case X will not start
Hi All,
I've been reading all the messages about video card compatability. I

Hi All,
I was playing around in the terminal located in the bottom window of
konqueror, issuing commands, and generally looking around and trying to get
comfortable using a terminal. I gave the following command:

Good Day Everyone,
Lately, I've noticed problems with playing midi files while visiting web
sites. I get the error messge:

Probably there is another program using it.
When I see this message, I'm only running Konqueror Web Browser at that
Does anyone have any idea what the following log entries mean:

QObject::connect: (receiver name: 'KonqFrame')
QObject::connect: No such slot KonqFrame::changeColumns(int)

This is of course assuming that the rest of the setup configuration is
correct.
I recently bought US Robotics 3com PCI 5610A modem. I have been in
contact w/US Robotics and I inquired about this modem. They have a model
5610 which is a winmodem but they tell me that the 5610A is a hardware
modem. ($70 to $90)
I had it up and running for about a week and then I kept

I had the same problem. I could send my mail out w/other mail clients but
kmail gave me the same error message as you.
I'm a beginning novice and I just play around w/settings to find out what
works, so I loaded both settings for Kmail and, say, Netscape. I compared the

I currently use Kmail and the Konqueror Browser. I've noticed that when
someone sends an email with a URL in the message body, it's highlighted
as though I could just click on it and go to that site. But, it doesn't!
I know it's not a browser and only a email client!
Is there anyway to link
I noticed during the boot process that two particular lines come up each and

Checking Root Filesystem /dev/hda# .clean.
But once in a while I notice that when the line comes up it says:

I noticed during the non-graphic boot process, two particular lines change

Usually I see:
Checking Root Filesystem /dev/hda#...clean..[OK]
But then I get:
Checking Root Filesystem /dev/hda# has reached maximal mount count, check

Hi folks,
The last time I sent in a question about my modem not being detected, I
found that the modem itself was not compatible w/LM8, it was a winmodem.
I pulled that card out and replaced it w/U.S. Robotics 3Com 56K PCI

Ok, when I first recieved this message, I immediatly logged out of
windows, shut down my system, pulled the winmodem back out (this is the
only way I can communicate - through windows,) put the 3com back in,
booted up in Linux, and headed straight for my terminal.
I tyed in the command like
