Hi.. Following advise from the list I d/loaded as root and installed the Netscape java plugin for Mozilla and it works fine in Mozilla.. I have put the path into Konq and I get the java applet message but nothing comes up the path I entered is..

There should be a symlink/usr/java pointing to your java executable. Yours appears to be pointing to the kaffe executable. just delete it and remake it with the correct destination. 'whereis java' will tell you where any symlinks or executables are on your system. Kaffe sometimes gets

For some reason I had to install jre to get konqueror to see my apps. but when i type in 'java -version' kaffe comes up! it use to read j2sdk1.4.0 what gives? also I've tried to modify my .bashrc but it seems the changes don't take affect. what is the permissions for .bashrc? Is it 755?

Hi Marcia, Here's what I think you will need to do to get your Java working again. I am assuming that when you login to Linux, you do so as a regular user, NOT AS root. In order for Java to run, you need to set up a minimum of two environment variables so that it can find the files it needs
