Hello, gurus!
I am using Mandrake 8.1 and I just downloaded the kernel-2.4.13-12mdk.i586.rpm and
iptables-1.2.4-2mdk.i586.rpm available in the speakeasy.rpmfind.net site. I tried to
install the new kernel and iptables using the commands of:
# rpm -ivh kernel-2.4.13-12mdk.i586.rpm
and
# rpm
I'm no guru. In a situation where I have something which depends on another and vice
versa
I put them all into an empty dir and use # rpm -Uvh *
This seems to work well.

Hello,
I have kernel 2.2.19-4 with Linux-Mandrake 7.2. My question is how
high can I upgrade my kernel before everything breaks? I would like
to get a newer kernel in the hopes of it working with my soundcard
which is a VIA VT82c686a motherboard chip. This chip works great with
win* and also
Well, if I remember correctly, you need to get egcs and upgrade your ppp to
2.4. Then fix your path in mandrake_everytime to point to the new supermount
directory before you reboot. But other than that, it was painless.

Hi, the title pretty much says it all. I want to upgrade my kernel to

How do I do this? Just download the RPM and install with Kpackage, of

Dunno. Upgrading my kernel last night broke my sound support so I'll hafta
figure out why and fix it. Something about soundcore not existing. I guess
it's trying to use ALSA. Blah.

Was it a dream where you see yourself standing in sort of sungod robes
on a pyramid with a thousand naked
sound that would be nice but hardrake cant identify my sound card, crystal
sound fusin pro, try sound config it blatently tells me no support for that
thing!
Yes, as a matter of fact not long after I installed Mandrake 7.1 (I
migrated to Mandrake from RedHat) I noticed there was an update
utility. I had also heard there was something wrong with the kernel that
shipped with 7.1, so I ran the update utility. For some reason it didn't
work the fist time.

I do not use the ReiserFS. I have used Man Update on
Mark, you have a good point about LILO. I will try installing LILO and then
upgrading. Do you know whether LILO will take over nicely from Grub if I
just run LILO?
After I switch to LILO, I shall try the upgrade again.
Just out of curiousity, did you try the xemacs upgrades from MandrakeUpdate?
Al,
No, I didn't try the Emacs upgrade. I don't use emacs. In fact since I've
learned VI and MC and don't really have a need for emacs at all.
As far as LILO taking over for grub if I were going to do something like
this the first thing I would do is remove grub from, I'm assuming it
installed
Hello, all,
Has anyone been successful upgrading the kernel using MandrakeUpdate? I have
tried a number of times, but always end up having to re-install. Any
instructions (that work) would be appreciated.
Oh, yes, I am using ReiserFS and Grub.
