I have been setting up a samba/FTP server. There was one setup and running and I crashed it last week. It crashed after I modified the rights in the files of the ftp server and altered some of the user information. The server is still running, but X windows will not run on the startx command. I

K, I got XFree86 working, I type 'startx' and it opens up twn, but when I tried to install kde which I installed from the port I replaced that line in the xinitrc file that says 'twn &' to 'startkde &'. Well, after doing that I typed 'startx' and it started up but it looked like it loaded twn fir

I am not familiar with that specific card, but is it possiblke that it has only 1MB? That would explain a lot of things. In addition you should go to www.XFree86.org and check the supported cards. As John mention in the post about RENDER it may be worth considering getting a newer card. Lionel

I am afraid I am out of my depth now, however I notice you write "VESA" and I use "vesa" I assume you do not use caps in your conf. otherwise it may explain a few things... However, from the reaction of your XFree86 -configure there could be something amiss in your setup and there I cannot help
