Good point, plus the 700 only makes 47 HP and red lines at 6500 rpm, so if the
500 makes 43 HP it might be a more entertaining ride. Plus it's 2K cheaper.

Honda's niche for the new 500 line is one of price. They've neatly slipped
these bikes in between the 250-300 class and the Suzuki and Kawasaki 650
standards. In fact, you can buy a Honda 500 for barely more than a Kawasaki
300. This isn't the first time Honda undercut the market. In 1991, th

Sean,
You are quite right - if I were to roll out of my driveway right
now next to snow banks that are two feet high (about 10 inches of snow in
48 hours) on a bike - they would quickly have me committed and well, I
wouldn't blame them!

The only time I don't ride is in the snow and ice. But, fortunately, we
have little of either in Christchurch. My bikes (two 700SC's) are all I
have through my partner has a car which we use at times. Oh, and some
bicycles which we're frequently on as well.

Thanks Kurt - I also fall into the rare 365 day a year rider. I'm lucky
because of the weather in Hawaii but I know other people on this thred ride

down the street let alone on a bike. I don't see the bike as a luxury or
Actually, if the X gets decent ratings, I would spring for it over the
700X. It has a bigger fuel tank (4.5 vs the 700's 3.7), has a slightly
shorter wheelbase, weighs 40 pounds less, and actually has slightly
shallower rake. Should be the more maneuverable of the two, which for a
city commuter mak
Don't forget about women, most of them don't feel comfortable with larger
bikes. Personally I don't see the point to the x version since it is almost
identical to the 700x. The CB and the CBR versions make sense to me. Naked
pseudo sport bikes have been selling well, as they are more comfortable
All the info I can find on the original 250 put the redline at just shy of
19k RPM... I'd say they were gutless in the torque department, probably had
to be ridden like a two-stroke, and weren't available for terribly long.
Two years, I think?
Sean,
Yeah, it's a rant, and it's a good one, but unfo
I should think so - at that size they must not have had much torque?

Joey,
There were a few 400 - 4s, and the original CBR250 was a 4; talk about

If you have a nice backrest or a top case, the passenger doesn't need to

I totally agree with Kurt's comments, and in regards to the market, the way
I see it Honda is just filling the holes they had with respect to Suzuki
and Kawasaki, i.e., cb500f looks just like the suzuki sv650, cbr500/250
compete with the kawa's ninjas 500/250, etc.
Very true on the adventure==stand
CB doesn't have to be a 4 can bike; there are plenty of CB twins
historically to prove that.
The F is probably the "naked" counterpart to the CBR500 in the lineup. It
has a market, be assured. For a commuter you'd probably want the X instead
of the F or CBR. It seems "adventure" is the new word fo
Sean,
The Nighthawk 250 and 450 lines were twins Traditionally the
line in the sand was anything below 500ccs was a twin - anything larger was
a four. (At least in the 70s and 80s Hondas that I'm aware of - someone

OK I'm really not a purest but Aren't the CB line in-line 4- cylinder

A CB500F makes sense to me in that it would be a great bike for communting
that you can on longer trips - probably a lot like my 95 750. However, it
has a sport bike seat which is just plain confusing to me. If
