Hi,
We are planning a production environment for a J2EE application and are
now wondering what kind of loads Orion can handle, say in a 2 CPU Intel
with 512M RAM system? How many concurrent sessions can a box like that
handle?
We probably need load balancing and clustering, so I'd li
Hi--
I've
got a one island, two node cluster. The whole setup works, each of the two nodes
fields requests etc. However, the Linux load average on the load balancer
fluctuates radically and often goes above 15 or 20! The load averages on the
cluster nodes are well below 0.5. Anybody know w
I'm trying to setup an environment where I have two app servers and a
load balancer all serving one application on two unique ports (80 and
81) where I want the session data to be identical between all four
instances of the application.

We are having problems when working with two app servers behind a load
balancer. One user will make changes to ejbs in one server and the other
server will not know that the ejb has changed.
There are also some objects that are cached in one of the server. When this
cache gets changed, the two s

I went through load balancing documentation which I found from
orionserver.com but I didn't find any way to separate Orion's web
container and EJB container to achieve the above setup. Is it somehow
possible to do that kind of separation? How
application across islands? Load
Balancing happens even across islands.
2) Does Orion multicast the state? If so - it is a security concern anyone
can sniff up the packets.
3) How can a loadbalancer allow some and disallow other orionserver
instances in the same subnet from joining its islands?

Hi,
Where can i get documentation on Load Balancing. As i have 5 servers i
want to make changes to my architecture.
Thanks

Hello,
i just set up load-balancing as described in the documentation.
i testet with "default-web-app" and some servlets and it seems
to work fine.
then i tried my struts-based application and i got following exception:
Load balancing wise it's very straight forward, nothing to setup on the
Orion side. And it works like a charm. Clustering wise I haven't had a
chance to try it out, yet. Perhaps next week I'll dive into clustering.

Has anyone tried balancing orion with hardware? We have to set up an orion
cluster using a cisco localdirector as the balancer. I'm assuming it's
pretty straitforward, but I'm just curious if anyone has tried it.

The load balancer

Second Question! Woo! Hoo! =)
Hello, karl,
Excellent! Awesome! Great!
I burned through your document and have a functional setup.
A few questions :
Where ideally should loadbalancer.jar be executed? Obviously if it is running on
one of the machines in the cluster it isn't so good.. sort of de

interrogating Magnus, but
it's good to have it all in one place!

Hello,
Finally, the first version of the "Orion Clustering and Load
Distribution" document is up. You can read it at
http://www.orionserver.com/howtos/orion-clustering.html
We will not link it from the site until tomorrow since we want to do
some more testing on it before we have everyone waste
k. Haven't checked the site myself yet but I
assume by the questions still coming, the document isn't done
yet?
Thanks.

Kevin,

The one thing I haven't been able to test yet
is if I shut down one clustered server, then restart it, if the session data
gets replicated to it again automatically. It should, but I have yet to
Yes.
Its very easy.
Look
in the /docs folder for clustering info, but basically you do
this.
IN
/config/server.xml, add the line
where
X is a unique number on EACH server of the cluster. Thus, each server has Orion
running on it, X will be different on each of these copies of

We're looking to go into production with Orion on 2-3 nodes with a
Arrowpoint CS50 (I think Cisco has renumbered it CS1050 or something
like that now) in front as load balancer. Does anyone know of any
problem with doing this?
Is Orion and a CS50 compatible?

ted in how it does http session fail-over/clustering.
In-memory clustering, with the 2 server setup is very fast.
So if anyone can enlighten me as to how Orion handles the http session fail
over/load balancing, that would be great.
Also, I would like to use a load balancer feeding 2 web server
