Dave, My "photo computer" is a 5-year-old Mac mini running Lightroom 4. All of my photos are on a 1T Firewire 800 external hard drive, which is now a little under 3/4 full. The internal HD has the catalog files and serves as the "scratch disk". It doesn't work with lightning speed, but it's fast
