Advent 300 for many years & yes it was a great minimalist
receiver - but alas I could get no one to repair it - but I sure got my
money's worth out of it.

Speakers: My favorites in recent years have been the Wharfedale W90D.
Good bass, perfect and accurate highs. And they work well as furniture.
Just hire a pro to move them. :-)
Amp: Get an Onkyo from the 80s or Sansui from the late 70s or early 80s.

You probably couldn't go wrong by picking up where you left off and getting a
new Pioneer receiver. They're certainly among the best. It would offer surround
sound, but would have a setting for two-channel stereo as well.
