Fellow PowerBookers:
I'm sure this has been addressed in the past, but I've been offline for an
extended time would appreciate your wisdom.
I have the (possibly infamous) Power Computing discs for 7.5.5 7.6, and have
been unable to load the software onto Apple computers. These systems

I've used VPC 2.1 on a G3/300 DT. Not a PB, but that should be irrelevant
to VPC.
Subjectively, I felt that Win95 felt like it was running on a PC of maybe
40-50% the clock speed of the G3. (I wish I had some hard numbers to back
up this guesstimate.) Running even Win95 on a 486 is painful

Oh, as for PowerBook problems, I guess the merits of various PowerBook
keyboards and how they compare to the PowerBook 180's is a PC issue then?
Get a life Paul.

I used to run VPC on a PowerBook 5300 with 64MB of ram (maximum). Windows
95 was tolerable so long as the app in use didn't require virtual memory. I
guess something about using an emulated disk to function as emulated virtual
memory just was too much to do quickly.

I'm going to forward this message of Andrew's to Dan, and suggest
that he turf this person. If you agree with me that he has no business
pushing PC laptops on this list, please write to Dan at

Hmmm... I thought VPC (2.0) was quite tolerably usable on my 6500/250.
Thought it crawled on my 5300/120. Not bad on my husband's iBook and I'm
going to try it on my TiBook.

HEAR HEAR I am SICK of hearing about Andrew's Portege (I think he

perhaps that will help you with homophones.

Hi!
I recently obtained some PB Duos to give as gifts. They all have 16 Mbs
of RAM and an internal modem.
However, the modems do not have the familiar RJ, american kind of
socket, but a regular 8-pin serial DIN socket. Just like the
printer/modem port.
TattleTech reports a printer/modem port and
I believe these would be the European modems. Not sure of the details since
I'm in the USA, but I seem to recall some discussion on the Duo list about it.

For gosh sakes.. This is a list about Powerbooks. Yes, I think iBOoks would
qualify as Powerbooks, as well. But do we have to listen to hours of
non-ending smack about whose laptop is bigger better. Windows may have
problems, and Mac may have problems. Many of us
I'm glad you are sooo open minded and have seen it all and know it all,
but shove your Protege where the sun doesn't shine (I heard it's real light

I forgot, you also said it was real light ...), if you must drag
CEASE FIRE.
How about BOTH parties just drop the whole shmere and get back to discussing
the items we ALL signed on to discuss.

Hey guys, something wierd happened to my Powerbook
5300c today. Well, the 5300 was just siting on the
floor off with nothing connected to it besides a
battery which was dead in the battery bay. So i'm

Hi again!
Maybe I did not explain myself clearly.
The PB's Duo 2300c have the regular printer/modem port, and INSTEAD of
having the regular RJ socket on the other side, they have an 8-pin
serial port. So I have TWO 8-pin DIN sockets: the regular printer/modem
port, AND an 8-pin modem port.
