Hello PB listers:
I stopped by the Lombard CompUSA last night to buy a laptop for my college
bound son, and was steered toward Powerbooks. The sales folks really pushed
the Macs over the PC's. Any idea whether their commission is better on Mac's
than PC's, or are they really believers.
Tks.
I've got a Powerbook 3400c I've used for three years now,
it's so dependable I've even passed on a newer laptop.
I also have a Motorola StarTac CDMA cellphone. Since the
idea of hooking my cellphone to a laptop for access to
my server here in the office was very attractive, I looked

Try http://www.teleadaptusa.com for connectors between CDMA phones and
PowerBooks. They have one product that is a Flash Card that intermediates
between the phone and the computer and lets the phone act as amodem. I
recall seeing support for StarTac. Whether or not it'll work pre-G3, I don't

Does anyone know of a good source for these things? I'm looking for
one that will fit in the PB 5300 media bay... I have a couple extra

I took apart a spare 5300 floppy, thinking I could somehow attach the

I helped some missionaries in C. America once, using a similar system. We

Hello all!
I've been trying to get OS 8.1 running on my PB 190cs so as to not burn
space on my newly-installed 4 GB drive. However, all attempts have met with
failure. Not even the minimal-install version of 8.1 will run properly.
My questions are, then:
1) Has anyone here successfully gotten
Excellent, thanks. Do you by chance have a part number for that adapter? I
Googled Mac Palm serial adapter and got scads of hits - most of which
went to online vendors who no longer have it in stock. If I had the part
number I might be able to track it down a little more efficiently.
I found an

Yes. It didn't take anything at all. Just installed straight away. I've run
it on both a Duo 280c and 520c. What exact problems are you having?
2) How much RAM

First, are you completely certain that it doesn't have one already? Most
3400s do. The port is in the back. Mine showed up without the right software
to find or use the modem, but once I got the software right the modem works
beautifully.

My friend recently gave me a Powerbook 145B. Unfortunately, batteries
