How much RAM is on that 5300? I found 8.1 to be sluggish with 24 megs, but when I bumped the machine up to 40 and replaced the slow stock HD with a faster one, OS 8.1 suddenly became more responsive than any version of System 7 I'd tried. Not to mention it is far more stable. 64 MB. The one

Thanks everyone for all the info. I did upgrade to 8.1 in the end and the problem went away. I'm going to have a go at copying files from my PC with a CompactFlash card seeing as that seems to be possible. It currently only has 16Mb of RAM - I think it was only used for running M$ Word

I found a set torx of screwdrivers at home depot- they seem to work quite well. about $15 CDN- so about $10 US. I believe the 5300 needs a torx 8. 3.this is the minor consideration: where is a good place to get torx drivers to work on the 5300? Feel free to contact me
