Well it appears that there are no extensions or control panels for the
G3 processor.
I had a look at the CPU and it was marked IBM PPC750-EBOL233 so it
looks like there is a G3 inside.
Two other chips on the CPU card are labeled:
Vpower PB 1400 G3 233 Vimage Corp.
and
Vpower PB 1400 G3 M-46209
I'm using my one time to sell on this list because I decided not to try
to repair my PB.

Bought refurbished. Used over a year. Worked beautifully, then the screen
went blank. Chimes on reset, but nothing else.
In good shape w/all little doors and feet intact, trackpad,
I would still be intrested in the 3400c.. What would you want for it? Or is
there anything you need for your G3 I could offer as well as a partial trade
or what have you?
Thanks,
Nathan

I have a working PB1400c/117 and a PB1400cs/166 with a dead screen.
Would it be easier to swap the working screen onto the 166 machine, or
install the 166 internals into the 1400c? Or is neither really worth
the aggro?
All views gratefully received!

Swapping the screen is much less work.
Mad
Having torn apart my fair share of 1400's the screen swap would be quick
and easy.. Just pop the end caps off each side of the screen. Remove the
screws. Pop the keyboard, carefully **Very Carefully** rock the screen
connection and transplant it over... Simple as that...

Hello,
Would this work on a 3400?
Any combo of the following to install a Sys Folder:
USB 1.1 CompactFlash reader/writer or USB 1.1 7-in-1

and an ADS USB 1.1 Cardbus PC Card that seems a bit

I can use the help or info too, as I have a 133 that had bad battery prongs, and I put
another board in and now nothing.
I also have a 166 that I installed another drive in and now nothing? And I never had a
problem with drives before, even put old one back in, did the reset, etc.

I fitted the 1400c screen to the 1400cs, but on start-up the screen
is dark as though the backlight isn't working. Refitting that same
screen to the 1400c, it works perfectly. What am I doing wrong?

Did you put the correct processor on each logic board ?

Make sure you have the cable heads planted correctly in the sockets.
The screens are 100%
From my one try at breaking one down, I'd say it's pretty easy to swap the
screens. Just be careful with the two plugs that go into the sockets on the
motherboard. There's not much room to get your fingers down there to push
'em in, and on the one I tried it on, they're pretty brittle and easy
I've got a PB 170 here that has been dropped a few times, and so has breaks
in the plastic around the keyboard, bottom of screen hinges, etc. I also
have a PB 150 here that seemingly has a dead board...no chime, nada. So,
can I make a 'frankenbook' by putting the 150 screen and top case half
OK, I've tried both screens on both machines:
c screen + c base = works
c screen + cs base = dark screen (faint image but no backlight)
cs screen + cs base = completely dead screen
cs screen + c base = negative image - odd colours, black and white reversed
In summary, the known good screen and
Are you switching the display cable as well as the display? The active
display and the passive display need different cables.

Yes, I've been swapping the complete screen including the two wiring
looms and plugs - that seems to be the easiest way to swap them over.

The differences for the 100 series plastic, except the 100, which is
a whole different thing are:
the back of the book: the 150 has way less ports, but you can manage
to cut the plastic.
the screen has various size (from (8 to 10), so the frame must be

Ha! PRAM reset was what I wasn't doing. If I do Command-Option-P-R
after swapping screens I can now get the 1400c base (known to be
good) working with the 1400cs screen (previously believed dead). I'm
using it now - and just for the record, for my money the Active

Well, I GUESS you could connect them via Appletalk, and have the empty HD in

If you want to install a Systerm Folder to boot off of, just get a
CF-to-PCMCIA adapter for that CompactFlash card and plug it directly into a
PCMCIA slot on the 3400. Format the CF card as a Mac volume and install the
system on it.
I doubt that there is any way you could get a 3400 to boot off a
