Hi; I am having trouble diagnosing a problem I am having with TWO 3400c/180
motherboards...
Neither will boot. I have one screen, two Power Supply boards, two PRAM
batteries and all of the rest of the parts needed to make one
complete unit, but no
matter the combination, NOTHING will make either

At this point, it looks like you will have to scrounge them from 5300
and 1400 motherboards. No big loss, those are much cheaper than 3400
mobos. I will attempt a transplant today.
The
I just transplanted the PMU chip from a 5300 to my 180 Mhz 3400c
board (exact same chip). Unfortunately it still has the same
symptoms; the unit will bong, get the the question mark disk, with
the cursor stuck in the upper left corner. No ADB function, nor does
the trackpad. The HD spins up
Tom,
If you're looking at the top side of the motherboard there 2 large high
density chips near the center of the board, one of them is labeled PMU that is
the bad chip, I also have several bad 3400 logic boards with this same
problem, the primary symptom of the problem is usually that the
I was looking over my 3400 boards and one of them uses the same PMU
chip as the 5300, while others use a -B version of the chip. So, I
am hoping that all the 3400 can use either the 3400 or 5300 PMU chip.

Hi Mad dog.

also where do you get all the bits from as you seem to have a never ending
supply.
I have an addiction to buying computer parts. I dont know if there is a cure.
After some further inspection, the 1400 motherboard seems to have the
same -B PMU unit. Can someone else inspect some of thier 1400 mobos
to confirm this ? Ebay usually has cheap 1400 mobos, so that can be
an easy source for the IC.

Tom P aka Mad Dog asks:
Does anyone know which chip on the 3400 controlls the ADB ?
Opening the PB3400 devnote . . . the Architecture block chart on page
11 shows the PMU IC with ADB responsibilities. Then on pages 15 and 16 we
find this helpful info:
