You may be right of course. If there is a legion of radio-only users out
there who are content with the sound of one small speaker and very litte
bass, then by the same token the UE radio should sell like hot cakes

OK, I think I've just about digested all this uproar. I guess my take is
this.
Dumbing down the complexity in order to achieve a simpler
user-experience, more reliable functionality (eg alarm that works
without fail) and appeal to the wider mass market - I can appreciate
that logic.

Have subsequently only just seen the sticky thread about the *new*
product line (UE) including radio.
Somewhat supersedes my comments about consumer product vs geeks-only.
Sounds like the way forward was to start-over in terms of
architecture/software ?
I think I need to digest it properly.

Like many, I had suffered the very unreliable alarm function on the

As I understand it, the server fires the alarm at the appropriate time.
There are various posts about the radio clock drifting from the server
time. One option might be for the alarm to act as a time-sync event. In
other words, the radio would update its local clock a
larms from the server side (as opposed to the client
waking up and initiating the audio stream) makes life far more
complicated than it ought to be - particularly when you add the extra
confusion of switching between a local server AND mySqueezebox.com.

You know the old addage, "keep it simple stupid". The current alarm UI
just doesn't quite feel like it
use of distinct (ie separate) buttons for each choice -
Far less likely for "user error" than the current menu.

um, maybe I misunderstand. Wouldn't be much use as a snooze without a
timeout (10 mins for me).
The snooze timeout is configured from the server. Not sure if you can
set it from the radio its

* I'm a snoozer: Wheel=Snooze,Volume-dial=Alarm-off
