The Apples look nice, but not sure they will fit the rims. I do recall
however that MA40s were re-rolled to 26 back in the day and fit with
pretty big rubber. Might be worth try either way. Even better = two
sets of wheels!

Campagnolo Racing T. Shimano makes a MTB front derailleur intended for

When I set up my Road Standard with a Campagnolo compact (50/32
double), I ended up using a standard (Chorus, I think) derailleur.
The triple compatible derailleur I had used in the past with compact

Not sure you need advice. The XR is a great choice for what sounds
like one heavy duty bike in the making. If you find yourself riding
more on pavement than mixed conditions, Marathon Supreme 40s will roll
a bit easier. Supremes will slide more than XRs on grass and loose
stuff though.
The Marathon XR's would probably be great. I put a set of 622 X 32 Marathon
Plus on my Quickbeam a few months ago. It's been my first experience with
Schwalbe tires and so far I'm impressed. Another option would be the
Continental Top Touring 622 X 47. I've run a set of them on my Atlantis for
