To clarify, I think you would like indexed bar-ends, and I've had no problem with 8-speed index shifters on a 7-speed cassette. Technically there may be a very small difference in spacing between 7- and 8-speed cogsets, but in practice it wasn't noticeable once the shifting was dialed so that t
