I have manage to install RH 5.0 out of the box. One thing that got me stumped was the fact that when I do a Telnet or FTP to it, it takes about a minute before I get to the Login: prompt. I have tried Turbo Linux and I did not get any problems. What could be the problem, what have I missed out in

who causes segmentation fault and dumps core

Hey all... I'm not sure when it broke, but all of a sudden the who command dumps core every time I try to run it. I thought maybe it became corrupted somehow, so I took the who command off of another RH5 machine that runs it fine, and it still dumps core with the new one. Any ideas? TIA, Jerem

You need to look at the man pages for the cdwrite and cdrecord utilities. They will specify which CDRs they will support. Linux itself doesn't care since it only provides a generic SCSI interface. See the CD Writing HOWTO at http://sunsite.unc.edu/LDP/HOWTO/CD-Writing-HOWTO.html for more details

Rehat 4.1 -> 5.0 was *huge* You may not *see* them as a normal user, but the very things that programs rely on to run have been completly re-implemented (sortof). Win3.1->win95 was really a ui change. Under Linux I can make this sort of change in 10 minutes (including compile), by changing wm's.
