Title: Message I'm using RH8 with an updated kernel 2.4.19. The RH8 kernel had some issues with pptp and mppe. After getting the new kernel installed it fired up no problem. pppd 2.4.1.pppoe2 pptpd-1.1.3 kernel-2.4.19 linux-2.4.19-openssl-0.9.6b-mppe.patch   that's all you should need.
