Hi all,
I'm new to the list and kind of new to Linux. Quick question bout the
firewall. Would it be best to have the firewall installed on a machine
by itself, I mean off of the machine that you would run a mail server or
a web server?
TIA!!!

Thanks Nate.
SM is currently running on the IMAP server. But if I connect to SM from
across the Internet (not on the local network), then isn't my login
information sent in plain text ?
I'm not familiar with stunnel. I'll check 'man stunnel'. Any links you

As far as I can tell from the docs, squirrelmail is not secure (login sent
in plain text). I can't see where squirrelmail uses imaps.

I'm trying to install Horde / IMP on RH7.0 using the RPMs from
ftp://ftp.horde.org with little success.
I've searched the FAQ, the www site for IMP, various readme files, and
the mailing lists archives. What little I've found refers only to
installing on RH6.2. Horde installed ok, however
I'm just getting started with IMAP and believe I have that portion of
things working properly.
What I seem to be missing though is how to get my saved messages /
folders from my POP mailbox into the IMAP mailbox. I've done a bit of
searching on the archives but haven't really found anything
That's not normal operation for a network interface card. You have a
problem with the setup of the card, the cable, or the hub.
Try this and see if you get any lost packets:
ping -c 500 your_ip_address
This should ping your network interface 500 times. You should see NO lost
packets.

Thanks Vidiot, Hossein, and rday.
Interesting that tar will get the dotfiles in the subdirectories, but not

Thanks for all of the pointers.

Xcdroast ver 0.96e. I don't specifically remember the errors with Xcdroast
other than I wasn't able to burn a CDRW (it's been a while).
When I try to erase a CDRW using 'cdrecord blank=fast dev=1,4,0' , I get
