Hello-
I just installed RedHat 9 on my system, and it works great with the
exception of sound-- I can't get it to work. When I run the soundcard
autodetection program, it detects the chip correctly (Vendor: C-Media,
Model: CM8738, Module: cmpci), but when I attempt to play the test

Hi,
I have been trying to get sound and sound recorder working on my system
for almost a month now. However there has been very little luck in it. The
sound card is detected by the system and I am able to hear mp3 using XMMS.
I am also able to hear .au and .wav files. However whenever I try to mak

I have a system at home, that doesn't play the KDE startup music the
first time you log in after a reboot. But if you log back out, and right
back in, it's fine. I've asked around, but got no replies.

I am having all kinds of wire(bugy) problems with the
redhat sound system. It won't play the wav when Gnome
starts up. It will play the logoff wav but not the
logon wav. I am having other problems with the sound
as well but I figure if I could solve this one, it
would solve the rest..

Hey Folks,
I've been using Redhat Linux for several months now, and about a
month ago I upgraded to 8.0. After several VERY interesting and
educational bug/crash/misconfiguration recoveries (Kids, dont go

Hello,
I'm having a problem getting a couple of different programs to access
the sound card. I'll put my system stuff below.
I've recently added and changed some software on my system; but nothing
seems to be broken, though, and KDE is using the aRTs sound server,
which doesn't seem right to me,

For an answer to your first question, try running
/usr/bin/aumix. (man aumix) It will set all
audio levels, work interactively, or save your
setup in an rc file to be read at boot time. HTH.
