Don,
Thanks to some advertising hype being spread by manufacturers of so-called
"surge suppressors", one might think that some kind of a surge suppressor is a
"must-have" accessory. Not! A properly-designed electrical distribution
system does not need such pathetically inadequate gimmicks. A
Thanks, guys, for all the ideas. I really don't like the idea of
ripping into a virginal Quantar because some users' radios aren't
transmitting enough PL tone.
As for the VX6's they are not running in the narrow band mode, at least
on the ones that have been checked.

Nate: you left out the other fun part of Kansas ham plates. All Kansas
plates have a sticker that identifies the county where it was issued except
for ham plates. We have a saying in ks, that there are only two types of
hams with call letter plates in KS. Those that have already been pulled

Does anyone have a copy of any setup/service docs for a Selectone
ST-180 "shared repeater panel" they would like to share? It has basic
info on the inside of the cover, but this information lacks detail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Don...N5MZQ
it's simply amazing how muchthis has Nothing to do about building or
servicing Repeaters.

I've had call plates on all my vehicles since the 70's. First it was
WA6EMV when I lived in SoCal and then AH6LE when I moved to Maui.
I've kept the AH6LE call ever since

Similar tale here in southern CA. A ham friend has had call sign plates
since they first came out here, so he haqs the old orangr letters on black
background plates that are probably 30 years old. He's been stopped many
times when a cop got suspicious about such old plates on a car only a
couple
WCs were also EMA stations in the 70s.

In 1976 I upgraded to Advanced and got WD4AYD. Gee not a novice or Tech.
Dropped that call and requested my secondary call become my primary.

I ran across a problem on a M3 and various talkies. For the most part
tone was a bit low and voice was really over deviated. It was easy to
hit 6 or 7 kKz. of transmitter deviation. The problem was talk down
of the repeater. The real problem was the low end audio response of
the portable radios

Don't pity the 'poor cops' too much. A week or two ago my friend Paul,
W0AIH, who has been a Wisconsin resident for many years and has call
letter plates with his callsign on all of his vehicles, was driving to
another town in Wisconsin and was stopped by a local cop who 'just
didn't think that
Could be a lot worse... in WI you can draw plates for multiple "class d"
vehicles with your call letters (after providing a copy of a valid ticket),
the poor cops have a helluva time sorting things out when they run the tags
and get a different vehicle each time :)

Last spring in Dayton, my buddy and I did an informal review of all the
different state's HAM plates. Some were great looking advertisements for
ham radio and some just looked like normal license plates. I wondered if
those states just gave out vanity plates with the call sign rather than
a custom
This makes sense.
I guess what might help is to find a single VHF bandpass
can to put in front of the receive side of the duplexer.
How much does the power output effect the required filter
attinuation? Right now I am running about 70w out would
turning it down make much of a difference? Fro
Jim,
Yes it was novice block (at least in 4 land). This was issued to me as a
'Novice'. It may be that some regions issued to Tech. as well.

Not sure on the limit of vehicles that you can register in Texas with
ham plates, as the Form VTR-53 (heres the link http://www.dot.state.tx.us/txdoteforms/GetForm?formName=/VTR-53.pdf&preference=PDFForm&appID=/vtr/specialty%20plates&fileID=124&status=/reportError.jsp&configFile=WFServletConfig

Not novice-Tech/General.
I was never a novice.
When I was licensed, they were giving Novices 'WN' calls.

David,
You may want to check the law, they did away with the Radio installation
requirement several years ago. Unless they reinstated it the last I heard it
was gone.

Jim, here in Texas your ham plates are yours and when you sell a vehicle you
are supposed to go and get regular tags before selling or trading in the car. I
have seen a number of cars on used car lots with ham plates. Seems that the
owner of the plate and the lot owner does not know the law. Als
I had my car stolen in Las Vegas several years ago, and if I had not brought my
license receipt with me to show the secretary who took my report, I would not
have convinced her that I had given her the right plate number. ( Stolen cars
