Not all ultrasonic personal humidifiers use wicks.. The Medisana unit has neither wick nor filter and has a nebulizer discharge tube. Since ions are dissolved in the water, a wick will probably transport them to the vibrating plate along with whatever particles the wick doesn't filter

Its amazing isn't it Wendy, what they can digest! But if you think about it dogs in the wild hunt in packs, and the lower down the alpha scale, just grab anything they can, which is usually bones as they are the last to be eaten, and just run off and swallow them in case another dog takes it.
