Dear Mr. Richesson,
You're a genius! The final solution wasn't quite as simple as you
suggested, but it did lead me down a path that ultimately resolved the
issue. Here were the steps I performed to finally be able to upgrade to
v4.2:
1.) From the ISA Server Management Interface
Hi Mike,
Thanks for your post.

Hi,
I'm new to sipxecs, upgrading from an old asterisk machine to a
virtualbox vm. So far so good, managed to get the guest additions and
virtio-net going fine. Also internal calling works.
I have 3 ITSP accounts with 2 ITSP's for 3 DID numbers. I have 3 other
ITSP's for out bound calls. Neither
Am I missing something or is there not a way to setup a separate owner access
code on a conference bridge, so that the conference only starts when the owner
logs in?

Marcello,
1. You need to pick a number for their conference bridge. If your
users are 200 series, maybe make their conf bridge be the equivalent in
the 400 series.
2. When you log into the web GUI, use the user's ext. as a userid
and the PIN as the password... this will get you t
These may be really dumb question but I was not able to find answers.
1. Under User Group Settings, Conference, you can automatically assign
conferences to new users.
I tested this, added a new user but could not find a "conference extension"
anywhere; so I must be missing a step???
2.
Is there any way to disable the gravatar feature? Some of the default
gravatars are not "fitting," to put it lightly, in a business
environment and might be offensive to some users.

You are trying to upgrade from an unstable developer release to a stable
release. I'm sure you will find its not supported, tested, validated or
recommended. You may have other issues to contend with as others have
mentioned, however, the basic process that you are beginning with is flawed.

I've found out that if you turn on HTTP compression on the ISA server, things

I have installed a test system off the 4.0.4 and upgraded to 4.2.
The only difference in the upgrade were the following files
polycom_phone1.cfg.rpmnew polycom_sip.cfg.rpmnew
I backed up my production config and placed it on the test system with no

Try doing an export of the users / phones to ease the migration.
I don't think a backup will do you that much good.

For remote users, worst case is 5 minutes. For non-remote users, it's 60
minutes.

What do you mean by 'cannot'? Does it send a registration buit fails the
challenge or does send no REGISTER at all before the expiry?

I think I'll avoid doing that and let the phones reregister over time.
Shouldn't be more than about 10 or so minutes for them to reregister I
would think.

In order to get the xmpp federation stuff working - I'm planning on
re-installing 4.2 - and making my xmpp/sip domain publicly resolvable. Here is
the question:
If I were to

Registration can create a lot of load on the system - if you had a few
hundred phones re-registering every 30 seconds that's a lot of messages.

Thanks you very much for the suggestion. :)
